Dave's Market Update - 13.01.20

IN VEG:
Coming from the Sydney basin, QLD and VIC, there is an abundance of good quality egg tomatoes in the markets this week.  Prices are fantastic and while the egg tomatoes is considered an old-fashioned sort of tomato, it still has a great flavour profile. The snacking tomato range is in better supply this week after being a bit scarce for the last couple of weeks. Other vegetables in good supply include cucumbers, truss tomatoes, corn and coriander.

IN FRUIT
There is a plethora of high quality fantastic eating fruit on offer this week, with mother nature providing some magnificent weather. The highlight of the week are nectarines. Coming from Shepparton and Swan Hill, both white and yellow flesh nectarines are in excellent supply and are great value. We have done all the work for you by selecting the best varieties to ensure our customers have the optimum eating experience. Our white nectarines are Majestic Pearls whilst the yellow nectarines are Red Glenn and Sugarine varieties. Both are sure to please!

Also from Shepparton and Swan Hill this week are the best peaches. Once again, all hand selected varieties. White peaches are Polar Princess and Ice Queen whilst yellow peaches are Elegant lady and Summer Flame.

Lychees are again fantastically refreshing this week. Coming from Bundaberg in Queensland, the lychees in store this week are the small seed fleshy variety our customers love known as Kwai Pinks.

The middle of January through to the end of March is the purple patch for Riverina Rockmelons and this year is no different. Some excellent rainfall in Griffith during early January has caused the fruit to really size up and the first harvest is running well above average in size so this week we are running extra-large melons at a great price.

Our Honey Gold mangoes are from all parts of Queensland this week, from Mareeba in Far North Queensland to Rockhampton in central Queensland. We have excellent extra-large premium Honey Gold’s on a great special as well as Honey Gold’s in the Imperfect picks range. Our Imperfect Honey Gold’s are every bit as delicious as the premium fruit, just at a fraction of the price.

With the North Coast of NSW experiencing torrential rainfall over the last few weeks, Blueberries has been adversely impacted. This week, we are sourcing our blues from Tumbarumba which has had nowhere near the same amount of rain. The fruit is still the way we like sweet and crunchy and even better on special in all stores this week.
