Mushrooms and asparagus are the two lines that are the best value this week. I have never seen asparagus get so cheap so quickly as has happened this year, our customers are the winner here. We have regular, grande and mini to choose from, they are all fabulous. The mushroom flush is quite early this year as it usually happens in October. If the days stay warm, goodness knows how low the prices will go by then.
Lebanese cucumbers have halved in price in a week as have red washed potatoes. Other vegetables that are rapidly falling in price are caulies, broccoli, leeks, and cherry tomatoes. It's easy to find a vegetable bargain in our stores this week.
In Fruit
Not much change this week from last week. Avocados continue to be very well supplied and excellent quality. The mountains of blueberries have now become so inexpensive, and great eating that the strawberry price is coming down as everyone has shifted to blueberries - that’s how supply and demand works. Look for more berry specials this weekend.
To me, the Pink Ladies are now coming into their own as the best apple although all varieties are still good. Navels and blood oranges are both fantastic.
