In Fruit
I had my first KP mango of the season this week. Pretty good, quite mature which isn’t always the case with this early fruit…definitely worth a try. Pick the more highly coloured fruit and wait until it softens a little before eating.
Net passionfruit are plentiful again this week and will be well-promoted this weekend. Imperfect Murcott mandarins are my pick of the citrus, the blood oranges are still well-priced and of fantastic quality, and we will have the 99 cent /kg imperfect navels again this week.
Hass avocados continue to be very good value as are all apples and pears. Again it is the berry category offering the greatest bargains. Strawberries are as cheap as they will get this year, by early September they may be cheaper but generally not as good as they are now. I think our organic offer in this area are the best eating.
Blueberries are very cheap. Even the premiums have come back in price, they are my first choice of berry this week.
In Veg
This mild winter weather continues to produce bargains in our vegetable category. Again the far north Queensland corn is superb to eat. This week, we have an amazing special company-wide on premium Nicola potatoes at 99 cents /kg, that’s the price of a decade ago!!
We have excellent Chinese vegetables at a very low price and an incredible mushroom special in our NSW stores. Up in Queensland, we have premium ginger at about one-third of last week's price. It is excellent quality and will keep in the fridge for weeks, so stock up on this one.
Tomatoes, gourmets not truss are well-supplied, particularly the imperfect category, and for a good snacking tomato, Sweet delights are my pick. Finally, green beans are still great value.
