Dave's Market Update - 18 October 2023

Market Update 18 October 2023

In Fruit

“Mangoes are now our number 1 seller. Mostly KPs, all from Darwin, they are eating superbly. Both the imperfects and our tray sale are fantastic value. Blueberries continue to be oversupplied, excellent quality and cheap. Strawberries and blackberries are also both good value. Avocados (all sizes) remain very inexpensive. The fruit is all really sound and great eating.

This week, we are starting new season Australian nectarines and peaches will follow shortly. Rockmelons are delicious and remain cheap as does papaya. In all, a very good week for fruit. Enjoy!

In Veg

Another excellent week for vegetables ahead of us. The asparagus supply continues to amaze us in the industry, I think it’s the best year I have seen in the past half century (revealing my age).  Red caps are still very cheap and good. All our shops have an inexpensive snacking tomato on special.

Fennel is really good quality and cheaper than it has been. All cucumbers and tomatoes are great value. Celery, green Shanghai, pre-pack corn and broccolini are all very attractively priced. Leeks are coming to the end of their season and a bargain price this week.”
