In Veg
“The warmer weather and no rain are producing superb quality and well-priced vegetables across the board. Salads are great value with all cucumbers and lettuce in full swing and cheap. This week, I am adding a punnet of those fantastic tiny toms to our salads, I can’t resist the price we have them at this week. Their colour and flavour are superb.
As well the edible flowers, not cheap, are the best I have seen ever. If you are entertaining, I think they are a must. Kale continues to be a bargain as is pre-pack corn. Asparagus are very inexpensive, and of great quality, and we will have a super special on this weekend in all our stores. It’s certainly great salad weather so enjoy.
In Fruit
The feast of blueberries continues and this week, they have helped to bring back the blackberry and strawberry prices as well. A great week for berries!
In citrus, from Friday we will have all imperfect navels back to 99 cents a kg and blood oranges (NSW only) at 2.99 kg. Bloods are at their best right now, as we move into October they are usually not as good. Apples are still very good, and the Hass avocados are superb.
Mangoes are starting to eat well when ripe but there is still a lot of second-grade fruit out there.”
