Dave's Market Update - 20.01.20
IN VEG:Â
As usual in January, our focus is more on fruit than vegetables. The best story of the week is the drop in Cauliflower prices, they are half the price they were a week ago. Broccoli looks like it’s set to follow but it’s fall in price is a bit slower. Zucchini and Imperfect zucchini are cheap again and baby eggplant and Brussels sprouts are becoming cheaper. I am very impressed with the quality of the net red capsicums at the moment, they’re far cheaper than the premium stack product and around half the price.
IN FRUIT:Â
Peaches are fantastic this week! All peaches, particularly the whites, are cheap and fantastic to eat. We have lots of mango alternatives this week with exclusive Foley specials. They are great to eat but they do have a small black spot on the fruit because of rain at harvest time; it’s only on the skin and it certainly won’t affect the flavour. We also have Dragon Tooth and Honey Gold mangoes, both in excellent supply.
In avocadoes, the best Reeds we get all year are in store for the next fortnight or so, well priced and great value. All grapes and nectarines are great value and the first of the really good plums are in store now with Queen Garnett varieties. While they’re not cheap, they are fantastic and great eating. At this time of your, Aussie limes are cheaper than imported lemons which are 2 or 3 times more expensive! Let’s support our Aussie farmers and save!
