In Veg
"The recent favourable weather conditions in all major growing areas this week have led to the markets being well supplied across a broad range of vegetable lines. Fennel, zucchini, baby broccoli, Lebanese cucumbers, baby cucumbers, broad beans, imperfect eggplant, asparagus, imperfect tomatoes and red capsicums are all well supplied.
Kestrel potatoes from South Australia are well supplied and on a fantastic promotion in all stores this week – at half of last week's price. Kestrel’s potatoes are characterised by their purple eyes and deep yellow flesh. They are a versatile potato that cooks amazing and make the best creamy mash you will ever eat. They are equally good for chipping or baking.
The Sydney basin growers continue to flourish with some fantastic quality vegetable lines coming to the markets. Kale, artichokes, Dutch carrots, spring onions, coriander, green Shanghai, silverbeet, and bunch beetroot all very well priced and quality excellent.
New season artichokes are in the peak of season this week. With the Sydney basin and Victorian seasons both strong in supply, this is the week to buy artichokes. Price and quality are both excellent.
In Fruit
In berries, this week still hard to go past blueberries. Pristine weather conditions continue to lead to an abundance of high-quality blueberries flowing into the markets. Prices are as low as they have been in recent years so enjoy while it lasts.
Blackberries are flourishing a couple weeks earlier than normal. The Queensland season has kicked in, so we have strong volumes at very reasonable prices.
We are in the last few weeks of the blood orange season. The fruit is still eating amazing but only a couple of weeks of the season left.
Mangoes from Darwin in the Northern Territory continue to flow into the markets this week. The fruit is eating as good as ever largely due to the dry harvest. Some extremely windy condition in recent months has “scratched” the fruit up but this in no way detracts from the eating quality.
Papaya is back on after being short in supply in recent weeks.
Our imperfect ruby red grapefruit is a fantastic fruit. This week, we have them at only a fraction of the price of premium fruit! Coming from Gayndah in Queensland, the fruit is sweet and juicy albeit has been subject to some windy conditions."
