Dave's Market Update - 03.01.2017
IN FRUIT
As always, as soon as all the public holidays are behind us, the business of summer fruit really gets underway. This year is no exception and this week has commenced with greatly reduced prices in melons, lychees, berries, nets of passionfruit, peaches and nectarines. There have also been smaller but still significant reductions in grape and mango prices. So for fruit at least the news is mostly very good. Of particular note this week are our Imperfect apricots which are just the smaller sizes of our premium fruit and are fantastic to eat. I think both whites and yellows in both peaches and nectarines are really good, and we will have intermittent supplies of imperfect fruit in all these lines that are fantastic eating at this time of the year. Avocados are a bit scarce, however just about everything else is well supplied, well priced and eating superbly.
IN VEGETABLE
As with fruit there is a mountain of veg available this week. For salads we have Midi Cos lettuce at incredibly low prices, plus most tomatoes and cucumbers are really well priced too. Lots of Broccoli has forced this market down and eggplant, snake beans and shallots have followed suit. I suspect as this week proceeds we will see lots of other vegetables ease back as well. Enjoy the bargains - it is starting to look like a really bountiful summer!
