Dave's Market Update
In FRUIT
“Lots happening in this category. Firstly, Imperial mandarins have eased again, they are now as sweet as they get and full of juice. The new season Kiwi Gold took off like a rocket last week and we are able to continue that ticket this week. Don’t even think about the green variety - they aren’t eating that well and the price is through the roof!
Some really excellent eating new season apples now hitting their straps. It’s a very difficult choice between the Kanzi and the Ambrosia, both great eating fruit. Chestnuts, Panama passionfruit and bananas all continue to also be very attractively priced.
Grapes are still our best-selling line; all the varieties are great eating. For those of you who love figs there is early frost predicted in some of the growing areas, that event means the end of their season so move quickly and enjoy the last of them.
My pick of the plums this week are the September Candies. Bit of a strange colour, however, fantastic eating. Hope to see some strawberry specials this weekend, I can’t confirm that as I write today.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Gold Kiwifruit
“This week’s pick is the Gold Kiwifruit from the Zespri company in New Zealand. This fruit is fantastic and eats very well. One of these gold kiwifruits gives you 100% of your daily vitamin C requirements. To me, they are far tastier than the green product, they are definitely sweeter and the market is prepared to pay more for this fruit.
Researchers have now developed 6 or 7 different colours of kiwi. This one is by far the best and the Zespri grown product is superior to other, cheaper, lesser gold varieties now on the market. They have a tropical taste, are low in calories, and are an aid to digestion. On the downside they don’t store as well as the green fruit, however they are a taste sensation.
The Gold kiwi is in season and at their best now, they will be available until late September.”
