Tackling Climate Change

We know climate change is a big deal for our planet, our communities, and the future of good food.

That’s why we’re cutting greenhouse gas emissions and working to build stronger, more resilient supply chains and communities, ready for whatever the climate throws our way.

Electrifying Deliveries & Transitioning Refridgeration

We’re phasing in lower impact refridgeration systems across stores. We are also trialing our first electric truck In partnership with our partners at All Day – a small but mighty step toward cleaner transport

Renewable Energy

We’ve switched to procurring 100% renewable electricity with our partners at CleanPeak and installed solar systems at our Greystanes DC and Albury store - generating clean power straight from the rooftops. We’re also trialing fridge doors to keep the cool in and the energy use down.

Supplier Engagement

We’ve started to work with our suppliers to understand where they are on their journeys, support them in setting climate targets and reduce emissions across the supply chain. We’re tracking it all through Watershed - giving us a clear view of our impact so we can stay honest, stay focused, and keep doing better.

War On Waste

We’re big believers in the circular economy - keeping resources in use and out of the bin.

Our goal? To wipe out waste across our operations, especially when it comes to food and packaging.

We’ve set ourselves a big target: divert 90% of our waste from landfill by 2028 and in we're already over halfway there!

No waste in the first place

The best waste is no waste! Food close to its date goes to our Save Me Stack where our customers can help us fight food waste and find delicious food at great value.

We’ve also teamed up with Too Good To Go, so you can snap up surprise bags of perfectly good food for a bargain just before they are out of date! So far we've saved over 20,000 meals from being wasted - that's over 50 tonnes of CO2!

Rescue & Reuse

If we can’t sell it, we save it. Good food goes straight to local food rescue champions like OzHarvest, One Meal and more - feeding people, not landfill. Right now, we've got food donation partners in all stores and we’re donating over 26,000 kg of food every month.

Scraps that can’t feed people feed local farm animals. Like our friends at Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Dural.

We've also got an awesome reverse logistics programme where we reuse crates, boxes, buckets and other packaging by sending them back to Sydney Markets everyday - cutting waste every step of the way.

Recover

When food’s past saving, we still don’t waste it. Nutrients get a second life through organics bins and partners like Goterra.

Soft plastics and cardboard are recycled, not dumped. New stores already divert up to 70% of waste from landfill, and we’re expanding this across every Harris Farm this year!

Neighbourhood Goodness

At Harris Farm Markets, we know a good community makes good food even better.

Our Neighbourhood Goodness program is our promise to give back to the communities we call home.

Neighbourhood Goodness is all about real local action. We're helping people live well, lifting each other up and sharing the goodness where it’s needed most. We're working across four key areas, check them out below...

Healthy & Active Lifestyle

In 2025 we proudly backed 59 incredible organisations! From junior rugby BBQs and surf lifesaving nippers carnivals to ocean swims and community fun runs, we investing over $82,000 in keeping our communities moving! Whether it was fuelling the City2Surf with 2,000 sausages, handing out thousands of pieces of fruit at the Cole Classic, or keeping local footy clubs fed on game day, we showed up hungry to help. Here's to another year of good food, great sport, and even greater community spirit!

Community Uplift

We're helping to build strong, inclusive neighbourhoods. In 2025, we partnered with 92 organisations, pouring over $150,000 into lifting up the communities we call home. From feeding those in need through Jesuits Social Services and Street Side Medics, to supporting wildlife conservation with a brand-new cool room at Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.

With Go Generosity together with our online customers who donate online, we matched every dollar - doubling the impact for a different Australian charity every month.

Food Security

Good food should be for everyone. We work with groups like Ignite Food Store, One Meal, OzHarvest, FoodCare Orange and more to rescue and donate food.

In the past year, we donated over 353,851 kg of fresh fruit and veg to OzHarvest and around $102,000 worth of food to schools and community groups. We support food banks, breakfast clubs and local hunger relief programs.

Celebrating Culture

Communities thrive on culture, connection and pride. In 2025 we backed more than 35 community events, from writers’ festivals to school fairs and theatre shows.

By funding local festivals and cultural celebrations, we help bring people together and honour our shared stories, traditions and diversity.

Supply chain driven by nature

At Harris Farm Markets, we know a healthy supply chain depends on healthy nature. That’s why we’re working with our suppliers to build a supply chain that’s driven by nature and protects the future.

Driven by nature

Everything we do starts with the seasons. Whatever’s in season, we seize it, letting nature lead what ends up on our shelves. Our buyers work in the markets every morning to make sure we've got the freshest best quality produce on the shelf.

By working with the land rather than against it, we support better flavour, healthier farms, and food that reflects the rhythms of nature. In our range we champion regenerative agriculture, organic production and soil health to help our land thrive for generations.

A fair go for those who grow

We work closely with farmers to make sure they are paid fairly and treated with respect. Initiatives like Farmer Friendly Milk give growers greater certainty and a fair return. Through Imperfect Picks, we celebrate produce in all its shapes and sizes, reducing food waste and helping farmers when nature gives more than expected or when weather impacts crops, so more good food is enjoyed, not wasted.

Love local

We prioritise buying Aussie-made and sourcing local to each store wherever possible. Keeping our supply chains closer to home supports local jobs, reduces food miles, and strengthens the connection between our customers and the people who grow and make their food.

Built to last

Behind the scenes, we’re building a resilient and responsible supply chain. In FY25, we launched our first supply chain sustainability survey to better understand how to support our suppliers. This is the first step towards our goal that by 2030, 67% of our supply chain have decarbonisation plans aligned with climate science. We’re also lifting standards on workers’ rights, transparency and safety, because caring for people is just as important as caring for the land.

Sustainable Packaging

We’re always looking for ways to make our packaging better for the planet. That means improving the sustainability of every pack we use - and partnering with our suppliers to raise the bar across the board.

Ban the bag & bag it right

Our packaging journey started back in 2018, when we became the first Australian grocery retailer to Ban the Bag, kicking off our mission to end single-use plastic. Since then, we've encouraged customers to Bag it Right by charging for paper bags and promoting reusing fruit boxes or bringing their own — and introduced BYO bag exchange boxes to help our customers lean in to the sharing economy.

Recyclable packaging

We've focused on making packaging as recyclable and responsible as possible. In our own brand packaging we've leaned in to materials that make it easy for you to recycle at the kerb. In 2025, we ramped up our efforts hosting workshops with our buying teams, adding the Australian Recycling Label to all new Harris Farm products, as well as becoming a signatory to APCO to drive even more progress.

Reusable packaging

We believe reuse is the future so we have been trialing reusable packaging in stores, like bring-your-own milk and honey and reusable produce bags - plus testing reusable pallet wrap behind the scenes to cut plastic in our supply chain.
