You know who loves it when you cook for them? Mums do.* This Mother’s Day, put the fluffy slippers, household appliances and hand cream to the side, and make her a meal. (And clean up afterwards too).
Here are four things your Mum might not tell you … but will help you win on the day.
*Nb, while we say Mum as a shorthand, we also mean all the people who play that role and deserve to be celebrated on that Sunday.
1. Let her sleep in and make it lunch (or dinner).
Here’s something that lots of Mums like; a sleep in (that doesn’t involve muffling the sound of pans in the kitchen with a pillow over their head). With that in mind, skip breakfast in bed and make her lunch or dinner… Some mums also quite like a little bit of wine, so serving a meal later in the day at a time that lends itself to opening a good bottle is also a bonus!
2. Don’t be afraid to get help.
Our Ready-to-cook Meal Kits might just be your Mothers Day secret weapon. Choose one you think she’ll love (we’ve picked out a few of our faves below) and we’ll send you everything you need. All that’s left for you to do is follow the step by step photographs, put on some music and pour your love into the dish.
3. Set the table nicely.
We’re talking about the good plates, clean cutlery and polished water glasses. Think about plucking some flowers from the garden and putting them in clean and empty jam or mustard jars down the table, or pick up a small bunch of cornflowers or chrysanthemum which are in season. You can always use a card with some nice things written on it as place holder (Mums also like being told in detail the things about them you appreciate).
4. Did we mention cleaning up after?
Send mum to the sofa to read the paper while you wash up. (And that includes drying and putting away too just in case you were wondering).
