The Borough Box - Mixed Selection of Natural Wine

We wanted to offer something interesting and of premium quality for our customers in the natural wine space. The goal was to strike a balance of wines covering all bases, in harmony with the season, without being overly polarising, in particular for new entrants to natural wine. Working to this brief with the curators of The Borough Box, we landed on this exclusive mix for Harris Farm customers.
 

The package contains a punchy yet diverse mix – six wines in total; from party-ready apparatuses, wines suitable for bbq-side consumption & more serious late lunch / dinner companions. All for sharing with the best fresh food & friends to elevate the experience. Neck tag notes are included on each bottle to offer unique details on what each bottle contains.

  

Starting with Das Juice pét-nat, a friendly bottle of fizz which works well as splashed around on its own or with a side of freshly shucked oysters, spicy & light refreshing chilli-limey cucumber & a soft cheese, such as Triple Cream Brie. Melsheimer Riesling & the Sigurd White express the precision, balance of polar-opposites and variety of texture that can be found in both orange and white wine. Delinquente’s Rosé is for a crowd that enjoys a chilled & fun vibe; it’s moreish & lush – with gentle creamy fruit notes up front before finishing with a herbal tang. The two reds are enticing and approachable, yet different. A great opportunity to showcase varietal differences as the wines are from opposite sides of the globe.

 

All wines are from producers who adopt minimal intervention practices & source organic or biodynamically farmed fruit.

2021 Das Juice Prosecco Pét Nat

Fresh n zesty fizzy fun captured in a bottle. Need much more be said?

2018 Melsheimer Trocken Riesling

This dry Riesling comes from the weathered slate soils near the village of Reil including the renowned plots of Reiler Goldlay, Pündericher Marienburg, Burger Hahnenschrittchen and Reiler Falklay. The grapes were hand harvested and and transported to the winery in small batches in order to keep the grapes intact. The fruit was then spontaneously fermented in large neutral oak casks.



2021 Delinquente Nero d’Avola Rosato

The 2021 Rosato brings back all the elements that make this wine such a favourite, but the cooler vintage has seen everything turned up to 11 - lush strawberries and cream on the nose; super refreshing raspberry and rose water on the front palate. But it’s the savoury notes that are really shining through on this wine and continue to impress – herbaceous, acid driven and moreish to keep it all working together. It’s everything we want to see in a rose, and about as smashable as it gets.

Wild fermented in stainless steel, after crushing the fruit was left to soak on skins for 6 hours, giving the wine it’s the lovely blush pink colour – maybe a little more intensely pink this year than previously. Nero d’Avola is a native Sicilian variety that is perfect suited to the hot, dry climate of the Riverland.

2021 was the kindest vintage we have experienced in 9 years of Delinquente – a La Nina cycle bringing good spring rainfall, mild summer temperatures and cool, crisp nights. The Bassham Family Organic and Biodynamic vineyard, bursting with natural vitality and life, took full advantage of Mother Nature’s gift and produced beautiful quality fruit – sweet, layered, and with piercing acidity – and plenty of it too!

 

2021 Sigurd White (maceration)

A focused palate with a mineral note, the white blend is a mix of lemon sorbet, white peaches and fun times with just a pinch of white pepper. The nose washes into the palate with the bright fruit of spring and summer. It has good texture and length and is an amazing reflection of 2021 vintage - it will age gracefully.

Semillon (56%), Vermentino (20%), Viognier (14%), Muscat (8%), Chardonnay (2%).

Style: Medium body dry white

Vineyard: Barossa/Barmena, SA.

Best with: Sri Lankan fish curry, basmati rice. 

Drink: Now, and for the next 7 years.

 

2020 ARC Wines Mornington Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir from Dromana in the Mornington Peninsula. Made predominantly from the Champagne clone our 2020 vintage brings the classic notes of cranberry and the sea together with spice and nuances of oak. Our last “Tilly” Pinot holds a special place in our hearts. Drinking well from now until 2030. Bottled unfiltered and un-fined.

 

2020 Les Errances Cartouche Cab Franc/Grolleau

A juicy blend of Grolleau, and Cabernet Franc, it marries bright succulent red berries, with that enticing herbal component that Franc always brings. So much depth to this wine, as it opens in your glass the flavours get darker, the structure sucks you in.

Such an exciting new project from this young couple, wines that speak of place with a purity and clear expression. Les Errances is owned by Warren and Maïté Perrocheau who met in 2009. Having travelled the world, they settled down to corporate life in France, and like many wandering souls, found the pace of the rat race too much, and moved to the Loire Valley for a slower pace of life.

They founded Les Errances in 2018, after completing their winemaking studies and working with some of the region's great producers. They now farm six hectares of mixed varietals while buying small amounts of fruit from other organic producers.

They encourage diversity of plants and trees in and around the vines with a permaculture approach, whilst in the cellar they are as hands off as possible. All wines enjoy long elevage and are remarkably stable, with minimal sulphur added only when needed.

 

Closing Notes 

 

All wines are from producers who adopt minimal intervention practices & farm/source organic or biodynamic fruit. Natural wine practices involve careful land & soil management and put heavy focus on creating a product not intercepted by human alteration. This ensures a pure expression of fruit & terroir, allowing soil & nature to take a front seat in the formation of the final product. There could most definitely be some colour variation, cloudiness & sediment in bottle. This is normal, and due to the choice to bypass filtration by means of utilising isinglass (derived from fish bladder), milk, gelatin or egg white – which are deemed unnatural & unnecessary by the producers. The wines are all vegan friendly & some have minimal added sulfites to ensure stabilisation.
