Spaghetti Bolognese

500 g beef and pork Bolognese mince

500 g tomato and basil pasta sauce

½ cup water

500 g spaghetti

100 g parmesan cheese, shaved or grated

1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 tbsp salt
-
¼ tsp pepper
-
1 tsp sugar

Method

Bring a large pot of water to the boil and add 1 tbsp salt.

Heat a large casserole dish over high heat. Add olive oil and the mince. Cook for 10 minutes, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and loose.

Add the pasta sauce to the mince. Rinse the jar with ½ cup water and add this to the dish. Stir through, bring to the boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.

Season with ½ tsp salt, pepper, and sugar. Add a handful of basil leaves if using. Simmer for 15 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti in the salted boiling water according to packet instructions.

Drain well and serve topped with the Bolognese sauce.

Garnish with basil leaves (if using), sprinkle with parmesan, and serve with garlic bread if desired.
