Pick of the Week - Iceberg Lettuce

“Iceberg lettuce remains a very popular salad item in spite of the multiple options available. The people who love them really love them. They have been very dear for many weeks.
This week, we are seeing a dramatic fall in the wholesale lettuce price to the extent that our retail offer will be one third last week’s price!
They are a refreshing change, get aboard at HFM this week. The reason for the price drop is that stock is still coming from Victoria, however, at the same time a number of the larger Queensland growers are starting up and you, the customer, will be the beneficiary.”

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“At last, we have a good news week with vegetables. Lots of very good options.
Iceberg lettuce is one third the price of a week ago. Broccoli and broccolini are both top quality and inexpensive. Celery has fallen in price dramatically. Our NSW store have an excellent special with Kestrel potatoes, half last week’s price!

Fennel has eased in price as has imperfect Kumera. Baby cukes are back as well. The weather is great everywhere and the winter vegetable crops and particularly the QLD crops are superb quality.

Enjoy the feast!

In Fruit

“We have some fairly decent Australian navel oranges in our stores this week. They look a bit pale in comparison to the end of season imports we have been selling; however, they are fresh new season all Australian fruit.  The grapes continue to be our most popular fruit with a plethora of different varieties now in production. I am fascinated at how well these new grapes sell considering the prices they demand.
Mandarins are plentiful but the quality this week is mixed, the best eating I have tasted are the Daisy variety. QLD strawberries continue to be the best eating by far, however they are just starting and quite scarce still.
We also have QLD blueberries and these are really superior to the old season fruit that is now coming to an end. Apples are great - this week, we are seeing a better quality Pink Lady available, most of the early season fruit to date has been rather disappointing. With avocados, the G Max variety is generally more reliable than the Hass which are the more plentiful fruit.”
