Dave's Pick of the Week - Australian Asparagus

My pick this week is Australian asparagus.

September brings in new season Australian asparagus and for the next 2 to 3 months, all our asparagus will be locally grown. The first crop of the season is always green spears, but the white and purple varieties will be with us soon. In addition to our standard bunches, we also have beautiful baby asparagus in stock right now.

Aussie asparagus is the perfect new season spring vegetable. Growing, harvesting and packing this product is very labour intensive and it’s highly perishable, so grab it while you can. You can enjoy it at very competitive prices in all Harris Farm stores this week.

This weekend, there will be imperfect asparagus in store - it's not often available but it’s such a great buy when it is.

How to choose asparagus

Look for firm, bright smooth spears of uniform size with closed, compact tips. When you snap fresh asparagus, it should be crisp, moist and juicy.

How to store asparagus

Wrap in a damp tea towel or paper towel, our swag bag storage bags available in store are just fantastic for this purpose and store in the crisper of your fridge for a few days.
