Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - White Seedless Grapes - 18 March 2026

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“A couple of red-hot specials in our vegetable category this week. Both half last week’s price, top quality in season excellent value options. Firstly, Brussels sprouts, now an extremely in vogue vegetable and at a fantastic price. Brussels are a vastly different product to 20 years ago that is stuck in my generation’s memory. They are now a tender sweet option that people love.

The second great deal this week is celery. Great to snack on, put in salads or make soups with - top quality and at a great price.  Corn and Lebanese cucumbers continue to offer fantastic value.

This weekend, we will have a fantastic, brushed potato option for our customers. Enjoy the bargains at Harris Farm.”

In Fruit

“As per my pick of the week, grapes are the focus for HFM this week. White seedless are the most popular however the reds and blacks are both very good eating as well. We have another special on the imported navels; our local fruit will be starting shortly.

Papaya is reasonably priced this week and eating superbly. With avocados, some of the new season Shepards are quite good to eat, some are not, it’s a bit hit or miss. We are going to stick with old season Hass as the more reliable option at this stage.

Bananas are somewhat oversupplied and so prices are easing here. The best plums of the year to me are the West Australian Tegan Blues and we have commenced these this week. Their flavour is hard to beat.

We have also started Kanzi apples. They are very popular, quite scarce this week but as more growers start to harvest, they will become cheaper.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Sultana Grapes

“My pick of the week this week is the fabulous white seedless grapes we have in our stores.

They are now at their best and this will be the case for the next few weeks. There are now many different varieties of white seedless grapes. Knowing which grapes are the best eating at any particular time and securing the right fruit at the right time, NOT just what is the easiest to buy is an enormous skill. What is best this week may well not be next week.

We are currently transitioning from the Sweet Globe variety to the Autumn Crisps which I believe at its peak are the best white grape of the year bar none. As always, the largest fruit commands the premium price. This week, we will have Sweet Globes as our value offer in bags. You will not be disappointed with this fruit however the absolute best fruit is our Autumn Crisps, which we are selling loose by the kilo. This is the best white grape you will eat all year, for the next two or three weeks; weather permitting these are what you should take home. They are dearer but in my view worth the money.”
