Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Snow Peas & Sugar Snap Peas - 8 July 2026

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“Our big special this week is both Snow and Snap peas at an extraordinary price for winter. Tremendous bargain for one of the healthiest vegetables available. We are mixing the two together at home, absolutely delicious!

Corn keeps on being one of our top lines, the quality is superb and they are just so inexpensive! Brussels sprouts always a favourite in winter and will be cheap this weekend, the perfect veg for a cold winter’s night.

Choice quality zucchini are very cheap and imperfect tomatoes continue to deliver an absolute bargain to our customers.

Fennel is another vegetable that grows best in cold weather and it will be well priced all week.”

In Fruit

“Our imported cherries are now past their peak and the fruit is still excellent however less supply means prices are increasing. In berries, bad weather in QLD is adversely effecting supply except for raspberries which being grown in glasshouses are immune to rain.

What continues to be great value is citrus and in particular this week, it is our 3 kg nets of oranges that are outstanding value.

Apples are unchanged, many options with size and varieties all good quality. With avocados, we are winding down on the G max variety and by next week all our fruit will be Hass variety.

This week, there is more smaller fruit available and this is where the bargains are to be found. We are now sourcing the majority of our fruit in the Toowoomba area; it’s fantastic fruit and will be for the next two months or so.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Snow Peas & Sugar Snap Peas

“My pick this week is a combination of Snow peas and Honey Snap peas. Until two or three years ago, we only saw cheap prices when spring arrived and quantities became available. Now however, we have a substantial and excellent quality grower in the Bundaberg region in Queensland, supplying our market with absolutely top quality at a time of the year when traditionally these products were extremely dear at times even unprocurable.

So this week, ALL HFM stores will have ample supplies of these veggies at a bargain price. Both are fantastic no waste products and you may be surprised to read are also an excellent source of protein.”
