Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Lebanese Cucumbers - Wed 29 Oct 2025

Dave's Market Update

In VEG

β€œAll the cucumbers, be it Lebanese, Telegraph or cukes are really cheap. Lebanese as cheap as I have seen them for some years. We have a fantastic special company wide on pre-pack corn.

As well, both cauliflowers and Iceberg lettuce are cheaper than last week, the new crops from down south are fantastic quality. Finally, net red capsicums are a great money saver; this week again, we have a fantastic line of Mix a Tom snacking tomatoes at just $2.00 a punnet.

All tomatoes are well priced but these punnets will not be cheaper this season.”

This is the week to eat mangos. By the weekend, we will have moved our supply to Katherine which many, mango aficionados regard as the best of all for KPs. In any case, the next ten days or so will be a mango lovers delight!!

This week is pretty much the end of cheaper navel oranges and we will now transition our 3 kg nets and case sale oranges to the Valencia variety, which is the Aussie summer orange.

Avocados and grapes are both well supplied and we will be back into all Australian white grapes however the reds will be imports.

Not a bad week for berries with plenty of options. Blackberries are well supplied and eating well. Blueberries, though not as cheap as a fortnight ago are still very good value. Raspberries are not great, however, strawberries are coming from all over the country; Β Stanthorpe in Qld, still a few to go from Western Australia and Victoria now in swing for the Melbourne Cup. They are all pretty decent and we would hope to have some specials this weekend.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Lebanese Cucumbers

Β

"My pick this week is Lebanese cucumbers. The most commonly produced vegetable in the world. Annual global production now exceeds 60 million tonnes.Β

Here in Australia, this veg hits its peak for taste and quality in the springtime. They are grown in glasshouses all over the country and become more and more popular every year. The old-fashioned green cucumber that my generation grew up with is very close to being a thing of the past.Β

Traditionally, Lebanese cucumbers can be (and this year has been), very dear in winter. With the onset of warmer weather in spring, they just abound all over the country. So this week - a fantastic spring vegetable that is great quality, and great prices that is high in antioxidants and vitamins A, C, and K.”
