Dave's Market Update - 6 July 2022

Dave's Market Update for the 6th of July 2022. In season and ready to eat includes Strawberries, Blueberries, Imperial Mandarins, Pineapple, Hass Avocados, Fennel, Kestrel Potatoes, Kent, Butternut and Grey pumpkin varieties and all varieties of tomatoes. Buy in a bundle with our fruit and vegetable boxes.

In Fruit:

QLD strawberries remain excellent, although not cheap, the flavour and aroma are unbeatable. Likewise, blueberries from QLD are large and sweet at right now. Our Coffs Harbour growers have started picking as well and their fruit is looking terrific.

Citrus remains abundant and all our imperial mandarins from our SA and VIC growers are fantastic. Queensland pineapples are also super-sweet and cheap now.

A bumper crop of blood oranges is just around the corner. Pickers will hit the orchards within the next week to get the fruit to market.

Truckloads of South-eastern Queensland Hass avocadoes continue to flow into stores. The texture and flavour are at their best now and they will not break the bank!

In Vegetables:

Tomatoes are still in excellent supply. Truss, gourmets, Roma’s, and punnets. Versatile and great value.

Fennel is excellent now with big harvests travelling up from Werribee this week.

New-season Kestrel potatoes from South Australia are in full swing. With a purple blush around their eyes, they are perfect for mashing, roasting and frying. They would be the pick of the spuds this week.

Kent, butternut, and grey pumpkin are also very well priced. Welcome on any Sunday afternoon roast in this weather.

The rain affecting the Eastern states is sure to wreak havoc on all our Asian vegies and herbs for the short term. Basil, coriander, and many other delicate crops have been pounded with heavy rain and high winds in the last few days. This probably won’t help the ongoing lettuce saga either!!!

The quality of broccoli and cauliflowers from Victoria remains excellent. Most of our cucumber growers from around Sydney might have to spend this week indoors.
