Dave's Market Update - 6.10.21
In fruit: Again, it’s KP mangoes that are the focus of our fruit offer this week! Marginally less expensive than last week, they are now magnificent to eat; picking conditions are fantastic and the price, though not cheap, is still very good. In berries, raspberries and blueberries both continue to be well supplied and really superb eating. With strawberries, there is a short window now where the Queensland fruit comes to the end of its run, and Victorian fruit is not quite ready. Usually, Western Australia would fill this gap but this year but concerns about COVID have led to 30% lower plantings and so higher than normal prices. Still many apples and pears around, and of course avocadoes. Our apple of the week is Kanzi; they are solid and a very tasty variety. It will be interesting to see where prices go next week as people return to restaurants. I would expect increased demand in some areas creating higher prices.
In veg: Beautiful crops of Spring vegetables are arriving now in large quantities. Lebanese cucumbers are now plentiful, superb eating and top quality. This week we have a fantastic line of green Shanghai bok choy at a fabulous price. Snacking tomatoes are definitely getting cheaper; Asparagus and Dutch carrots are continuing to be well supplied at bargain prices!
