IN FRUIT:
Navel oranges are getting sweeter and better eating every week. At our place, I squeeze a fresh juice every day and blend that with half a ruby grapefruit; it’s a great start to the day. Pink Lady apples are hitting their straps now, they are well priced and absolutely delicious. All the apples are very good too.
Crimson seedless are still the pick of the grapes, there are major dramas in overseas markets and the domestic consumer is doing well thanks to that. Gold kiwi are fantastic, and limes remain excellent value. The flood of Queensland strawberries that would normally start to dribble in this week are running late as Queensland is experiencing their coldest start to winter for 100 years.
Don’t forget to try our fantastic G20 green skin avocados this week, great eating and great value too!
IN VEG:
We have some great specials in veg this week, especially hard produce! All our stores have loose brown onions, prepack carrots and a line of imperfect potatoes, all at red hot prices! Corn looks like it’s easing in price towards the weekend as the new season Queensland crops gather momentum.
Chinese cabbage, Dutch carrots, imperfect parsnips and swedes are all good value and it appears broccoli is on the way back also. Those fabulous beanettes, otherwise referred to as baby beans (They’re in punnets and the brand is Mountain View) from the Mitcheson family are on again this week - they really are the goods! Still some good snacking tomato options available but the cold weather in the growing areas is starting to inhibit supply of many lines.
