Dave's Market Update - 27.4.22
In fruit: It's back to school in NSW this week and the two great favourites for the school lunch box, Imperial mandarins and bananas are both well supplied. It’s a good year for mandos this year and my grandkids are loving them. Pears and grapes are of excellent value. In grapes, the reds are particularly good and Josephine pears I think are eating better than the more common Packham pears. Papaya is fantastic eating and a good option to berries, which are between crops and not fantastic. The new season pink lady apples are really good and the Imperfects are very inexpensive as well. It’s good to see Kiwi Gold back in the stores this week; still a bit expensive however that is because it's early in their season.
In veg: Very difficult again this week, however, there is light on the horizon as far as vegetables are concerned. Queensland crops are now well and truly underway and prices should start to ease from next week on. For this week, the only real bargain I am seeing is with Brussel sprouts, not cheap however they are half last week’s price. Imperfect kumara and zucchini continue to be the best value vegetables available.
