Dave's Market Update - 23.02.22

In fruit: The best news this week is the big drop in sugar plums. Coming from the Young district, these are the best sugar plums (which can be dried to produce prunes), of the year. Peaches are still good but, as Autumn approaches, nectarines are always a safer bet. Both the yellow and white Imperfect varieties are fantastic this week and very cheap. For a bigger, more glamorous plum, our Black Cats (a dearer variety) are absolutely fantastic! This week sees a significant drop in dragonfruit; a fruit I did not even know of 25 years ago. These prices will sustain another two or three weeks.

Trays of figs, papaya, Imperfect lemons, loose bananas and avocadoes are all great value and great quality. Grapes of every colour, new season apples and pears are all at their best right now!

In veg: Broccolini is a far better option than broccoli this week and is readily available. Again, both kumera and Imperfect kumera are well supplied, top quality, and inexpensive. We are stocking all Australian asparagus still. The Aussie product, though dearer, is far superior to the imported product the supermarkets are pushing. Finally, Lebanese cukes are starting to ease in price and improve in quality as well.
