IN VEG:
This week, we have a fantastic bargain in Imperfect sweet potato in all our stores. If you have not tried purple sweet potato, I would recommend you do this week! It’s great either mashed or roasted and many of our customers prefer it to the more traditional kumera. This special is in the Imperfect category, very good quality and as cheap as I have ever seen it. Also on special, we have Dutch Cream brushed potatoes, again very cheap. They are being harvested in Tasmania this week and are a great product with a great price and will keep very well in a cool dark cupboard. As a one off offer for a green veg, we have some excellent green Shanghai buk choy in stores from Thursday at a special price and I suspect this may run out over the weekend. To round off our vegetable offer, we have butternut pumpkin which is now at its best.
IN FRUIT:
Citrus is selling extremely well in our stores at the moment. Queensland lemons don’t get any cheaper and both mandarins and ruby grapefruit are very attractively priced. Navel oranges are still easing in price and every week they eat a little better than the week before. In avocadoes, the transition to Hass is now well underway and there are some very good eating Hass available this week. I still prefer the Greenskins but the late varieties of these only grow as very large fruit. Apples and pears are all good and we have some excellent Pink Ladies available at bargain prices in our store this week. I was pleasantly surprised at how fantastic our West Australian Flavourfall plums are still eating when I had one on my cereal today. At the moment, it’s them or Kiwi gold for me as we wait for the Queensland berries to really get going.
