Dave's Market Update - 17 May 2023

Dave's Market Update for May 17 2023 featuring white grapes, pink lady apples, green capsicums, fuyu fruit, gmax avocados, mandarins, leeks, lemons and celery.

In Veg

The two products that are real bargains this week are baby cukes and leeks. The weather is great for leeks, and cukes now seem to sell all year round regardless of the weather. I see them in my grandkids' school lunch boxes all the time.

By this weekend, it looks like we will have more broccolini than broccoli to sell. Fennel remains a bargain as is celery. There are plenty of capsicums available, especially the green caps. Most bunch lines are a little dearer than last week.

This week all our stores will be selling the new season Greenskin avocado known as GMax - see the blog for more details. There are heaps of mandarins and lemons in our stores, however, we are at the end of the imported navel season and the new season Queensland fruit is still fairly expensive. Our 3kg net oranges have a less expensive variety of new-season Aussie fruit as their product and will be the best option for a good juicing orange.

An excellent option this week is our loose (as in not in bags) premium white seedless grapes. Twice the price of the standard line and in my view, worth every cent of the difference, pinch one in the shop and taste the difference.  Still plenty of apples, so many varieties to choose from - it can be quite difficult but Pink Ladies are still my favourite. Fuyu are really good and the season only has a few weeks to go.
