Dave's Market Update - 16.03.22
In fruit: Not a lot of change since last week. The biggest price drop is with our new season Ruby grapefruit from Mareeba in far north Queensland. We have a line of small galas from the Batlow district that are an absolute bargain... I think we tend to, as an industry, store Galas too long; they are fantastic right now, enjoy them at their best. Still, lots of excellent bananas in the shops and there will be until Easter at least. I am loving the KP mangoes from Mildura, they mark the very tail end of the season for good eating mangoes. In plums, our fantastic eating Tegan Blues from Western Australia are superb. All grapes are really good, as are pears and apples. For something different this week, try our fresh pistachios; a surprisingly good crop given the weather they have endured.
In veg: Once again, the crops are damaged from the recent rains. In my opinion, the best options are broccolini, Imperfect zucchini and snacking tomatoes.
