Dave's Market Update - 14 December 2022

A selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables

In Fruit

At last it feels like summer. The weather, and availability of fruit, are now where we would expect to be in mid-December. Cherries have really come good and sales are booming in this category.

Peaches, nectarines, and apricots are all great value. The premium fruit is an absolute picture and eating fantastically. Add to this, the imperfect option at around half the price, and there are bargains to be had at our stores.

I find it hard to go past our lychees which are fantastic. They are a different lychee to what you will find in the supermarkets. They have a small seed (so more flesh to enjoy), are very sweet, and only available for a short while so enjoy them whilst they are in season. A 1 kg box of cherrie or lychees make a fantastic gift in Christmas week.

In Veg

Some great specials in our stores this week. In NSW, all stores have very well-priced new-season kestrel potatoes. I strongly suggest if potatoes are on your Christmas dinner list you stock up on these this week and store them in your fridge for next week. All stores have very good value corn and celery, both cheaper than last week.

We have a red hot special on Tiny Toms, those very small sweet tomatoes in punnets which are fantastic sprinkled over your summer salad. These will also keep for Christmas, as will our truss tomatoes. It's extremely rare for tomatoes to stay this cheap for Christmas but they certainly look like they will this year. All our stores will have top quality truss tomatoes for sale by the tray by this weekend. Grab a tray for Christmas - the weather is not particularly hot so they will keep into Christmas and beyond.

Iceberg lettuce and cauliflowers are both very good quality and value. We are looking at a Christmas week of most veg being top quality and reasonably priced. How's that for an early present?
