Avos are coming into the markets this week from the Toowoomba area, with our Balmoral brand probably the best quality fruit we get all year. It’s a very heavy crop, and as a result the fruit will be smaller going forward. Net passionfruit is back this week, it's always a great value way to buy this wonderful fruit! Unfortunately, rain will continue to hold back berries for a little while longer.
This week we have old fashioned 'tops on' pineapples in store. Not as sweet as the topless we normally sell, but regardless, still great value. All oranges are excellent and well supplied, except possibly blood oranges, whose time comes late July and August. In mandarins, we will phase out Emperors, and start the very popular Murcotts, as the week progresses. Green kiwi remains cheap, possibly as cheap as we have seen for four or five years, with papaya, rockmelon, bananas apples and pears all eating well, too!
The oversupply of top quality imported garlic continues this week; it's a bargain and all fresh on arrival, stock up whilst you can! The two other fantastic stand out bargains this week are Imperfect purple sweet potato and Imperfect tomatoes, both really cheap and really great quality. The sweet potato will keep well in this weather in or out of the fridge.
For something different this week, I am recommending bull horn chillies. They are full of flavour and are great barbecued or roasted, and again are at a bargain price. Other well priced veg this week includes celery, Dutch carrots and all varieties of onions. Red capsicum, leek and rockmelon is also top quality and keeping very well - you can buy with confidence this week! - David Harris
