Dave's Market Update - 14.04.21
IN VEG:Â
Most lines remain unchanged this week. Our best buys are broccolini, 1 kg bags of carrots, Jap pumpkin and zucchini. Imperfects are the great value right now, particularly Imperfect kumera. There are quite a few Brussels sprouts around and we will have some good specials on them this week.
IN FRUIT:Â
A few things are happening in the fruit category this week. Firstly, Imperial mandarins are coming out the other side of the drenching they copped last week and we now have some good eating fruit! By weeks end, we will have some well-priced, smaller Imperfect fruit as well. In avocadoes, there is some very good value in our Imperfect fruit.
The new season Pinks are really coming on. Lots of retailers are stuck with old season fruit which is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. Be wary of this, I’m not sure if some of them even know the difference!
We have fabulous pomegranates this week, they’re all Australian new season fruit. Nets of passionfruit are more plentiful, the price is easing and the quality improving on these. In pears this week, we have excellent Josephine’s available and they are great value. Sadly, the plums are now coming to an end, I would recommend Flavourfalls as our best End of Season plum. Lots to choose from this week.
