In fruit: It is Easter and as always lemons (think seafood) and limes (think Gin and tonic) are in high demand. Fortunately, both are very well supplied and will be inexpensive this Easter. Imperial mandarins are also now well underway, and again inexpensive and eating well. Each year at this time chestnuts are at their best; they can be fun for a fire at Easter. Avocadoes are now all greenskins and fantastic eating. All apples and pears are of excellent value. In plums, we still have the September Candies that were on special last week and by the weekend, we will commence Flavourfalls, which are the last really good eating plum of the year. Lots of good Aussie pomegranates in our stores and fuyu fruit are now at their best. The figs I am seeing are good and raspberries are my pick of the berries.
In veg: Again, the market is somewhat undersupplied with vegetables due to recent rains and now the added demand for Easter. Really there are only a couple of bargains this week and those are fennel and Iceberg lettuce. Most lines are fairly tight; kumara and Imperfect kumara remain excellent value.
