Dave's Market Update - 10.03.21
IN VEG:Â
The two bargains of the week are celery, very cheap for this time of the year, and imported asparagus. Zucchini and eggplant, both premium as well as Imperfect, are all very good and inexpensive. Truss tomatoes remain cheap, and yellow snacking as well as sweet delights both remain good value. Bagged carrots and Imperfect kumera also remain oversupplied and cheap.
IN FRUIT:Â
Citrus is really coming into its own again with imported navels, local juicy Valencia’s, ruby grapefruit, Imperfect and premium lemons, all very good eating, excellent quality and reasonably inexpensive. Apples and pears remain well supplied and grapes are very cheap, especially the bagged Thompson seedless.
I think it’s time to be careful of peaches and nectarines, but plums are fantastic and my picks this week are Tegan Blues and Black Kats. Both are juicy, delicious pieces of fruit. I am personally loving the beautiful ripe figs that are in our stores at present and are truly great value. While the Autumn harvest raspberries are not as plump as the summer fruit which we have enjoyed for the last couple of months, they are really sweet and very much in season.
