Dave's Market Update - 10.02.20

IN VEG:
Truss tomatoes are probably as cheap as they will ever get and we have them for sale by the 5 kg tray in our stores at an incredibly cheap price. It works out slightly under $2.00 kg! Shallots, Dutch carrots and Imperfect kumera are all fantastic value this week, as is Iceberg lettuce, cauliflowers and corn. Eggplant is the best quality you will ever see, and carrots continue to be a bargain.

IN FRUIT
Our focus now turns to more Autumn fruits. This week, new season Williams pears have halved in price and are starting to eat really well. Galas also are fantastic and inexpensive; they are still the only fresh new season apple available in Australia. The smaller, sweeter figs are now in full swing with loose, punnet and tray options all available.

Queen Garnets are my pick for plums, not cheap at all but fantastic eating. We do have some good sugar plums underway and by the weekend, we should have another great favourite, Tegan blues, in all our stores. Grapes continue to be fantastic, and limes remain a cheaper alternative to lemons. Imperfect avocadoes are now all coming from NZ are a cheaper option to our premium West Australian fruit. I would say that the flavour profile on the Australian fruit justifies the premium price they command.
