IN VEG:
Lots of very good options in veg this week. Our asparagus will be all Australian again this week and is very well priced. Truss tomatoes are still well priced as are red capsicums and 1kg bags carrots. Corn has eased in price, as have zucchini and Imperfect zucchini. Brussels sprouts and eggplant have also dropped in price and are great eating.
IN FRUIT:
We start to move to some Autumn fruits this week. New season apples and pears are now properly underway. In apples, it’s Gala season. Any other apple is last year’s fruit out of refrigeration. The Gala’s are fresh, crisp, delicious, cheap and to me, it’s the only apple to buy! In pears, the Williams have started. You must not eat these until they are a nice yellow colour and once this has happened, you should store them in the fridge.
Beautiful figs, either loose, in punnets or by the tray, are now underway as well as the traditional February peaches, nectarines and grapes which keep getting better and better! Bananas, topless pineapples and limes are also all really good and very inexpensive this week.
