IN FRUIT
In apples this week, Fujis are the stand out. The Fujis are an exceptionally sweet apple and this season’s crop is the best in years. Raspberries are still the stand out in the berry category with blueberries being in short supply for the next few weeks. Imperial mandarins are in their peak of what is looking like a big season. Ideal weather conditions in Queensland (even some rain) has sized the fruit up nicely. Purchase with confidence and enjoy.
IN VEGIES
Moderate temperatures for the month of April has seen an increased supply of vegies in the markets. Overall quality is good and prices are easing. Broccoli, broccolini, cauliflower, carrots, celery, eggplant, zucchini and red capsicums are all strong in supply this week. After some tough weeks, we’re seeing the supply of many tomato lines returning to normal. A fantastic eating tomato is the Sydney basin grown Roma tomatoes. There is nowhere near the volume of this fruit there once was due to many farms being development for housing. Roma tomatoes are old fashion tomatoes with that distinct old fashion tomato flavour. Truss tomato supplies are also on the rise and in snacking tomatoes this week, we have a push on the very popular sweet delights, don’t miss this bargain. Red capsicums have been expensive for an extended period, but this week see a dramatic fall in price as the new season Bundaberg crops swing into gear. Excellent quality and nearly half the price they were last week!
