Dave's Market Update - 12 July 2023
In Veg
Plenty of bargains again this week. Tomatoes, especially field-grown gourmets but also Truss remain inexpensive. For a snacking tomato, we are pushing Tiny Toms at a great price! Leeks and both red and green caps continue to be oversupplied and cheap.
Snow peas, not as cheap as last week continue to be of great value as does imperfect Kumera. Swiss brown mushrooms (in my view, the most flavoursome of all) are inexpensive and celery remains in the doldrums. Nothing is really dear, lots of in-store bargains as well.
In Fruit
Great week for berries this week, except for blacks, we do have them if you really want them, but they are not good value. Strawberries have got through the rainy patch last week and are of excellent quality and inexpensive. Blueberries are better and cheaper again this week. Better varieties of blueberries are now underway. My pick of these would be raspberries as they won’t stay down in price, whereas the other two will. All our stores have fantastic, imported cherries on a very reasonable ticket this week.
The Hass avocados we are selling from southern Queensland are superb. Kiwi Gold is selling well and great quality. Apples and mandarins are both fantastic and my favourite juicing orange, the bloods, have just started. Fairly dear still but they make the best juice. Enjoy the berry feast!
