Wittmann Estate Riesling Rheinhessen Germany

High-quality wine doesn’t come on its own. It starts in our vineyards with yield reduction, hand selection of the fruit and a variety of other biodynamic-friendly measures throughout the year. In the cellar, gentle pressing is followed by traditional vinification methods. The wines are primarily fermented in traditional large barrels. Our Gutswein-level Riesling delivers a remarkable portrait of its origins: the limestone-rich soils of Westhofen. Rigorous manual labour in the vineyard and traditional fermentation in large wooden barrels establish this wine’s pedigree as a “true” Wittmann. Citrus, grapefruit and wild herbs in the nose. Deep, yellow Riesling fruit aromas mingle with a focused, almost salty, limestone minerality. - Philipp Wittmann

Just as you can judge a chef on his omelette, it is often most instructive to judge a winery on their entry-level wines more than their expensive cuvees.

On that basis, Wittmann Estate's Riesling would be a three-star restaurant dish as it's an absolute stunner, elegant and lively with a silken texture and saline finish..

Biodynamically-farmed estate fruit and slow aging in old oak are the keys to this beautiful minerally, salty wine.

About Weingut Wittmann
