Pick of the Week - Yellow Capsicums

“My pick this week is yellow capsicums. These are grown by the Flavorite company, in glasshouses in Warragul in Victoria. Originally from Central and South America, they are now grown across the world. They are very high in vitamin C and also contain some vitamin B6, potassium and antioxidants.

They are normally as dear, if not dearer, than the green or red options. A small window of opportunity will see yellow caps at around half the price of the other colours, in all Harris Farm stores this week!”

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“A great week value wise in vegetables this week. Truss tomatoes have plunged yet again, our friends at Flavorite have come good again and we have an absolutely red hot special across the company this week.

Lebanese cucumbers, baby cukes are both still cheap and this week snacking tomatoes are in abundant supply in all our stores. Besides the truss tomatoes, our other major vegetable special is yellow capsicums at around half the price of the other caps. This price simply can’t last, buy a couple of week’s worth and keep in the fridge.

Other lines that are real value this week are broccolini, Continental parsley, asparagus. Midi Cos will go well with the salad lines that are on special and are also well priced and imperfect Kumera is cheap.”

- David Harris

In Fruit

“Mangoes continue to be the main driver of sales this week. Prices are still quite strong, but the colour this week is sensational. Eating fantastically, take a couple home and enjoy! We even have trays for sale this week, not cheap but great value. I would stick with KPs as the best eating mango at this stage of the season. I see our competition is promoting R2Es this week, any I have tried are not really ready yet.

We are now underway with peaches and nectarines in all stores this week. At this stage, we are only stocking the yellow fruit which is eating way better than the whites.

It’s a good week for berries as well, with both blacks and blues cheaper than last week and eating fantastically.

Don’t go past our imperfect stacks in store, there is great value to be had and money to be saved particularly with oranges, lemons, pink lady apples and of course mangoes!”
