Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Cup Mushrooms - Wed 4 June 2025

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

"Our company wide veg pick this week is Cup mushrooms. Great value and great quality. Other great winter lines include leeks which are easing in price, Brussels sprouts are very reasonable as are Iceberg lettuce and radish - not really winter, more all year-round good food.

As we transition to proper winter, there will be many other options but the wild weather in Queensland has delayed some crops.”

In Fruit

“Mostly more of the same in fruit. Some great apples available and all at great prices. Avocados are fast transitioning to Hass from the GMax variety. With Imperial mandarins, we move into NSW for our fruit. It’s generally a bit of smaller in size than the QLD fruit.

All the citrus is top quality and well-priced. Both kiwis are excellent. Berries are delicious but not really plentiful - we are still waiting for dry weather and warm days to bring the crops on.”

Dave's Pick of the Week

“The weather is perfect for a mushroom dish this week. Very unusual to get increased supply in a colder week like this. In all Harris farm stores, we have snow white cup mushrooms this week at a fantastic price.

Cups are a white mushroom that is just starting to open up around the stem. Very high in vitamin B, they are also one of the few sources of vitamin D which is becoming much sought after to prevent cancer and to combat diabetes 2 in our young people. Cooked or raw in salads, they are a perfect winter vegetable.”
