Dave's Market Update 4.9.19

Dave's Market Update - 4.9.19IN FRUIT:
We have a flood of berries as is often the case in early September. Strawberries and blueberries in massive volumes! The blueberries are better than the strawberries, and for the money I think the premiums, particularly in the blueberries are the best value. Citrus fruits are all excellent value also. Blood oranges, lemons (look for a bargain in the imperfect category) and ruby grapefruit are the pick of the crop. Mandarins are less of a bargain and our old favourite imperials have come to an end. Imported grapes will get cheaper as we commence sea freight which makes them considerably cheaper than the airfreight we have been selling. Avocados continue to be excellent quality and cheap, and for something different the rockmelons (especially the smaller fruit) are really eating well. Territory mangoes are now really good value and great eating.

IN VEG:
Fennel is about as cheap as it gets and very good quality. Loose beetroot is excellent and inexpensive. Zucchini and Imperfect zucchini are both really good and cheap. Kumera, cauliflowers, leeks and all cucumbers continue to represent excellent value, broccolini is a great option this week. Nothing is really dear, so Harris Farm customers have many excellent options this week!
