Dave's Market Update 22 March 2023

In Veg

More problems in veg from the intense heat, this time it’s asparagus. However, there are still plenty of options. Most of the snacking tomatoes have nearly doubled but we have managed to secure an excellent line of Dolce Bella tomatoes ( we used to call these 'Mini Romas' ). Other real bargains include corn, celery, Lebanese cucumbers, and shallots. Green Shanghai, Broccoli, and Caulies are well-priced compared to last week.

In Fruit

The hot weather last week adversely affected the quality of most of the berries and figs. However, it did bring on some fantastic rockmelons to enjoy this week and these are around half the price they were a week ago. As well we have a very good line of seedless red grapes at a real bargain price, it’s the cheapest grape we have had this year. We have Tegan blue plums from Western Australia (they always grow the best of this variety ) and lots of lemons both premium and imperfects.Shepard avocados are now in full swing and the hot weather has led to us being caught with too many bananas ripening too quickly so our NSW stores will have to sell cheaply this week to clear the decks.
