Orange Valencia Each

The Valencia is the juicing orange, and a single Valencia is a glass of juice waiting to happen. Thin-skinned, packed with juice, and sweet with a fragrant tartness that is more complex than a navel. If you squeeze oranges at home, this is the variety to buy.

Valencia oranges are at their best from late spring through summer, typically October through January, which is the opposite season to navel oranges. That makes them the warm weather juicing orange of choice.

Look for Valencias that feel heavy for their size with firm, smooth skin. A slightly greenish tinge is completely normal and has no effect on flavour. Avoid any that feel light or have started to wrinkle.

Juice them fresh in the morning, use in dressings and marinades, or eat out of hand. Their flavour is more complex than a navel and rewards those who take the time to try them.
