Small yellow nectarines are ideal when you want the full nectarine flavour without a large commitment. Firm, sweet, and juicy with that smooth, glossy skin and fragrant flesh that makes a ripe nectarine genuinely hard to beat. The small size makes them a natural lunchbox and snacking fruit.
Nectarines are at their best from November through February when Australian stone fruit orchards are at peak ripeness. That is the window to buy them regularly and enjoy them at their finest.
Look for nectarines with a golden-yellow base and a good blush, giving slightly to gentle pressure near the stem end. Avoid very firm fruit with no give at all, or anything already very soft. Leave firm ones on the bench for a day to finish ripening.
Eat them fresh as a snack, slice over yoghurt or muesli, bake into a crumble, or fold into a fruit salad.
