White grapes are one of the great snacking fruits, and a good bunch is genuinely hard to put down. Sweet, crisp, and refreshing with a clean flavour that works equally well on its own or alongside a cheese board.
White grapes are at their best from late summer through autumn when Australian and Southern Hemisphere harvests are at peak ripeness. That is when the flavour is sweetest and the texture is at its most satisfying.
Look for bunches with plump, firm grapes and green, flexible stems. Stems that are brown and brittle indicate the grapes are old. Grapes should detach easily from the bunch but should not be falling off on their own.
Eat them fresh as a snack, pair them with cheese and crackers, freeze them for a refreshing summer treat, or use them in a simple fruit salad. They also work beautifully alongside soft cheeses like brie or camembert.
