Look for pears that give very slightly near the neck. Packham is available year-round and is one of Australia's most widely grown pear varieties. Once ripe, refrigerate and eat within a few days.
Eat fresh out of hand, slice onto a cheese board with aged cheddar or blue cheese, poach in spiced syrup, or bake into a tart or crumble.
