Pick of the Week - Sweet Delights

“Sweet Delights are our most popular snacking tomato. That’s not unusual because they are in my view, the best eating in this ever-expanding category. It’s a variety that has been around for a while and lots of HFM customers buy them every week.

This week, they are our cheapest snacking tomato and in fact by the weekend could well be cheaper than gourmets. Rarely this price except in spring, they are perfect for the kids’ lunch boxes and a welcome addition to any salad. Stock up, this price can only go one way.”

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“This week, all the action is far more focused on fruit rather than veg. Nonetheless, there are some quite good veg options out there. This week, we have excellent quality washed potatoes available at a reasonable price.

Snacking tomatoes continue to be oversupplied and my favourite of these are Sweet Delights. The punnets are really cheap, glad I am not a grower! In NSW, Sydney basin glasshouse Roma tomatoes are underway, great new crop quality and inexpensive. Telegraph cucumbers continue to flood the Sydney market and will remain cheap this week.

In Fruit

“Lots of fantastic stone fruit underway this week. Starting with cherries, this fruit has fallen more this week. We have absolute premium fairly large fruit (the really big ones are still a fortnight away!) down 15% on last week’s price and slightly smaller fruit cheaper again in punnets.
Seedless watermelon also continues to be well supplied and great value. Blackberries are the pick of the berries and our grapes this week are all Australian (don’t tell Donald).
Mangoes are now from both the territory and QLD, lots of good options there. Apricots especially imperfects are now affordable and limes are gradually easing in price.

Peaches are surprisingly good for this early in the season and we expect to be able to offer a real bargain on these this weekend.”
