Jujube are small stone fruits native to China, treasured for thousands of years for their sweet, lightly tart flavour and satisfying crunch. Fresh jujube have thin, crisp skin with apple-like flesh that deepens in sweetness as the fruit ripens from green to deep red-brown.
Eat them fresh as a snack, add to fruit salads, or dry them to make a chewy, date-like treat. They are a staple in Chinese braised pork dishes, traditional teas and sweet soups. Rich in vitamin C and fibre, jujube are increasingly popular in Australia as a natural alternative to conventional sweet snacks.
Harris Farm sources jujube seasonally from Australian orchards. Look for firm, glossy skin with no soft spots. They keep for up to a week at room temperature or longer in the fridge.
