Premium strawberries are the ones worth saving for when you want the full experience. Larger, more carefully selected, and at the top of the quality grade, they deliver that deep red colour, firm flesh, and intense sweetness that makes a good strawberry genuinely hard to beat.

Strawberries are at their best in the warmer months when supply is plentiful and the flavour is at its most intense. That is the time to buy them in quantity.

Look for berries that are deeply red all the way to the hull with a bright, fresh fragrance. That scent is your best guide to flavour. Avoid any with pale shoulders or soft spots.

Take them out of the fridge 20 minutes before eating. Eat them fresh, serve them with cream, layer them through a trifle, or use them as the hero on a pavlova. When the quality is this good, they need very little done to them.
