Pick of the Week - Premium Blueberries
The market is swamped with fantastic quality blueberries this week from Northern NSW. We sell this fruit as our premium line, and I think they are such great value for large, crunchy sweet fruit, that they are really the only option in berries. They are marketed under the Mountain Blue brand and are a truly superior line of fruit. It would seem that the elements have combined to bring an enormous amount of fruit to maturity this week. Enjoy them at their best!
HOW TO PICK
Select firm, plump berries that have a natural, light blue-silver blush on the skin (this blush is a natural protective wax coating) and avoid excessively soft or withered berries.
HOW TO STORE
Don't wash berries until right before eating as washing will remove the bloom that protects the berries' skins from degradation. Place unwashed blueberries in a single layer on paper towel in a covered container and refrigerate. Use within 3 days. If kept out at room temperature for more than a day, the berries may spoil.
