Pick of the Week - Blueberries

I think we are finally seeing the supply of blueberries overtake the demand. We have huge quantities of blueberries now coming from Southern Queensland and Northern NSW. They have had significant rain recently that affected the quality for a couple of weeks, but now the weather is great and the fruit is fantastic. Prices have fallen significantly and as long as the weather stays dry that will remain the status quo. All blueberries are good, this would be a good time to freeze a few. They are the healthiest of the berries, high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Enjoy them now at their best and in the next few weeks, strawberries and raspberries will hit their best as well.
HOW TO PICK
Select firm, plump berries that have a natural, light blue-silver blush on the skin (this blush is a natural protective wax coating) and avoid excessively soft or withered berries.
HOW TO STORE
Store in the fridge, and don't wash until right before eating.
