We are seeing an unexpected flush of papaya this week and of course will be passing this on to our customers. Normally, it’s the end of September before we see these prices. Papaya is a fabulous product and it’s a welcome change to have them so available and reasonably priced at this time of the year. It is a tropical fruit that is not near so good to eat in the height of summer. It’s a great source of vitamins A and C and is well priced and eating at its best this week.
HOW TO PICK
Look for firmish golden coloured papaya with a sweet tropical aroma. The skin should be free of soft spots. If cut, pick papaya with vibrant red coloured flesh.
HOW TO STORE
Store at room temperature till it yields to gentle pressure. Once ripe, store in the fridge for a few days.
